And there, in the corner, was an HDTV.
Behold! Shit cameraphone shots of a totally awesome set! Last night I picked up a 1080p 42″ Westinghouse set from Best Buy. It was a little more than I was expecting to spend, but it’s also higher resolution and a larger screen than I was expecting as well. It all happened so fast.

The Extra Good News is Best Buy’s 90-day price match that they have going on right now. Anytime over the next three months, if I find this TV at a lower price, BB will match the difference 110%. So in the end I’ll be getting the three-month-from-now price, just paying a little more up front to have it right away. Not too shabby of a deal. I also picked up a 4 year warranty, an DVD upconvert player, and component cables for my lovely Wii.

I’m pretty much in awe of this thing right now. It’s a big step up for me, and it looks gorgeous. CBS & NBC look glorious in 1080i and PBS seems to have a special HD station in 720p that I’ve seen nothing but documentaries on so far, which I can’t really complain about (and makes me hope they show Planet Earth sometime). Fox is also broadcast in 720p, but aside from House, which isn’t even really airing much right now, there’s really nothing on that channel for me to care about. But there’s plenty of quality that I will be able to see in HD. Now hopefully that PS3 price drop rumor that’s floating about will come true in the upcoming months, because I’d like something to get 1080p out of this thing, and I’m not paying for a standalone Blu-Ray player. That’s just nuts.
edit: I guess I should’ve just looked on the net for a decent shot of the thing.

I loved that my family walked into Best Buy one night just to “scope out” some TVs, and we wound up walking away with a Samsung 40″ LCD that we christened later that night with Lord of the Rings. We also walked away with a new DVD player, and a few weeks later, I manipulated my mom into returning the crappy surround sound system she picked up with my dad and getting a super sweet new system from Best Buy. Impulse buying at its finest, especially since none of it came out of my wallet.
(Good job, Best Buy employees!)
Anyway, enjoy your new TV! I know I’m loving ours. Frodo looks even DREAMIER than before!
Is that that faggy Star Wars surround sound calibration on your screen? You should throw that rubbish out and start calibrating your home theater with gold old fashion rag time music.
No way, Davis. That is the movie Serenity. Learn things.
